Most people already know that hay is used as feed for all types of farm animals. One detail some might not know about hay is you can use it to grow a garden. If you have extra bales of hay, then why not try and make a self-fertilizing hay bale garden bed?

The process to make a self-fertilizing hay bale garden bed is actually pretty easy. In fact, the process is a lot like container gardening. All you need is just one bale of hay to get started. Conditioning the bale of hay needs to be done first and will take about ten days.

Once the conditioning is complete, you are ready to plant seeds in your self-fertilizing hay bale garden bed. Seedlings can also be planted if you have already started seeds indoors. Just make sure the bale of hay is watered regularly. The best thing is you can reuse the hay bale for compost.
