Make sure you like Homestead and Survival on Facebook to be updated every time we find a tutorial for innovative ways you can become self-sufficient on a budget.

Spiders Hate Peppermint

While spiders may be beneficial to have around, there not so charming in the house. Fortunately, we’ve had great results with peppermint oil. You can use peppermint oil to all but eradicate spiders from your home. Here’s what you do…

Fill an empty spray bottle with tap water and add 10-15 drops of peppermint essential oil. Make sure the water smells minty. If not, then add a few more drops. Then you simply need to spray the peppermint water in the cracks and gaps of your home where spiders can enter.

Spiders do not like peppermint oil. The strong smell will send them scurrying in the other direction and away from your home.

For an even more potent remedy add one or two drops of peppermint oil onto a cotton bud and place in the areas where spiders enter. It’s as simple as that!

If you want to try this for yourself then you can purchase a bottle of Plant Therapy Peppermint Oil for less than $7 on Amazon – and with free shipping if you spend $25 or more. Plus this spray bottle would be ideal for this use.

If you’d like to learn more things you can do and ways you can use essential oils, then get a copy of The Complete Book Of Essential Oils & Aromatherapy. It has over 600 recipes for your health, beauty and home and is my absolute favorite book on the topic.

P.S. Mice hate peppermint oil, too!
