If you can help it, it’s best to never invite snakes onto your property. If you have an overgrown yard and lots of piles of leaves then you’re inviting snakes. The same goes if you lots of compost piles, mulch, and thickly-planted gardens. If you have infestations of roaches or mice, again, that’s an invitation for snakes. Of course, many of us like our mulch, compost piles, and gardens, so it’s inevitable that we’ll see a snake or two.
