Many types of products that are purchased as health and beauty aids can often be made at home. If you already make homemade beauty products, then you easily make homemade liquid laundry detergent. A homemade detergent often gets a bad wrap due to not using the correct ingredients.

Certain berries or “nuts” used for washing laundry can be turned into liquid laundry detergent. The use of berries to wash clothes is typically an easy option, but a few problems exist. If you turn the berries into a liquid, then all that will be required is measuring the amount which is necessary for each load. This will be ideal option to eliminate the use of store-bought products that include various chemicals.

A homemade liquid laundry detergent is similar to a regular liquid detergent. The main thing to realize is the process needed to make laundry detergent at home. You need to use soap nuts as these have natural components that can be converted into liquid form.

The basic process to convert soap nuts into a homemade liquid laundry detergent requires heat. Heat is used to extract the “soap”from the berries. A single batch will make about 24 ounces of detergent. This is enough for about 12 to 14 loads of laundry. You should use about two to four tablespoons for each load of laundry. More of your liquid laundry detergent many be needed if your water is hard.

You will need to keep your liquid laundry detergent frozen as it can ferment over time. This occurs as there is not preservatives in the soap. A single batch that is kept in your refrigerator lasts for three to five weeks before going bad. The best thing about using a homemade detergent is not having any skin irritation which is common with a lot of store-bought detergents.
