The need for potable water is important and cannot be taken for granted. Whether or not you live in an area that does not have a well, an underground cistern is a great option. This is a great option for storing water to use for drinking or for irrigation. All you need to do is determine if one will be beneficial.

You need to ensure that any underground cistern you build is properly sealed to prevent leaks. A cistern that is not properly sealed will not hold water and cause a lot of problems. You have the option of building a cistern from cinder block or any other suitable material.

A good option for an underground cistern is to use a combination of concrete and cinder block. The use of cinder block will mean a cheaper cost over using poured concrete. One thing to keep in mind about building a cistern on your property is a permit may be required.
