You know how the song goes…”Chestnuts roasting on an open fire…Jack Frost nipping at your nose…”
A few years ago we attended a holiday event and enjoyed fresh roasted chestnuts. And, yes, they were chestnuts that had literally been roasted on an open fire. It was an outdoor event, so we walked around in the cold nibbling on our chestnuts singing the popular holiday song.
Now we can enjoy roasted chestnuts when they are fresh and in season in the comfort of our home.
We found a great (video) recipe over at Fanatic Cook that involves roasting the chestnuts in the oven. Overall, it’s really a simple process to prepare the chestnuts. What we like most about this recipe is the instructions have your score (cut) the chestnuts across the nut. Other instructions often have you cut an “X” into the nut which harder to do because the nuts are round and harder to hold, and it makes it a tad more dangerous to slip the knife.
Enjoy roasted chestnuts this holiday season!
