Many people are familiar with the beef jerky that is available at your local quick mart as a snack item. However, if you want to make your own jerky at home, a simple method can be used to make jerky like a pro. All you will need to do is have the few supplies that are needed.
Almost any type of meat can be used to make beef jerky. This includes venison, or moose, or even meat from a ducks and geese. All you need to do is to find the type of meat you want to use. You can easily use any fresh meat or meat that is purchased from a local meat market. The next step is to prepare the meat you want to turn into beef jerky.
- Sharp Knife / Cleaver
- Large Mixing Bowl
- Worchester, Soy, Ginger or Other Spices
- Solar Dehydrator or Electric Dehydrator
You need to cut slices of meat no thicker than one-quarter inch thick as this is the maximum thickness to use for beef jerky. Continue cutting the meat until you have the amount you need.
Then comes the dehydration process that is used to make beef jerky that will remove moisture from the meat – the most important part of the process. Fill the trays of your dehydration unit after all your meat has marinated in the refrigerator for at least 90 minutes (longer is ok). The next step is to turn on the dehydration unit and wait for your meat to turn into a batch of beef jerky.
